This is before and after cable freezing, where we have supplied liquid Nitrogen to NIE to effectively freeze one of their oil filled cables.
Cable freezing allows you to isolate parts of installations that need repair. Hence it is a technique used to freeze contents of a section of a cable. Therefore by applying liquid nitrogen to the perimeter of the cable in a controlled manner the contents of the cable freeze and form a plug.
This cable freeze is for Northern Ireland Electricity Networks Limited. Freezing allows isolation of equipment, consequently is an effective way of stopping the flow of oil so cables can be altered or maintained.
